So, I am relatively new to this whole blogging thing, even though its been around since I was in grade school (or before then, sorry peeps I was born in 89 so all I remember is Britney Spears and Captain Kangaroo). But since I've recently joined this blog-o-sphere and have read so many great blogs, I feel the need (like most bored middle-class white people) to document my life. But, suprisingly, my life is pretty boring, so what do I blog about? Thankfully, I had an idea: my hometown, which I despise and love so much (don't ask, it's a weird relationship) has always seemed like a very boring and white-bread place to me, and it felt like I had seen everything worth seeing by the time I was 13. But I had not given up on the place of my birth, and with the help of some close and not-so-close friends, I discovered that all a person needs to do is a little digging. So that brings me to February 25th, the day a band came to town that had gotten me excited about concerts in this area to begin with. It was a funk-aliscious band called Here Come the Mummies, and after seeing them in all their crazy glory at the Big Spring Jam two years ago, I've been going to every concert they have played here. Not many funk bands are popular these days, and it's a shame. The Mummies, with their 12-piece band churning out righteous-to-the-core egyptian-themed funk music, is rivaled only by their crazy antics on and off stage. They are the ultimate interactive performers, and sadly, I did not document any of the debauchery with my camera, but take my word for it: the night of February 25th at Crossroads I was busy sweating my makeup off, screaming at the top of my lungs, and dancing the “Funk Shui” (a Mummies dance that accompanies the song). After my friend getting an attack-hug after the show from one mummy and another mummy swinging his damply-bandaged arm around me and walking for a ways with me down the street, I've determined that this is probably the best concert I'll ever go to.
Here Come the Mummies tour all over the states, with most of their appearances being in the South and Midwest area. You can find all of their tour dates and listen to their songs at their website below:
P.S. When I was creating this blog, they asked for a name. I forgot you actually had to do this so I made one off the top of my head. Too cheesy? Suggestions would be helpful :)
